Jaw pain and headaches are very common symptoms associated with Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders(OMDs). It is estimated that up to 20-25% of the adult population suffers from jaw pain and headaches and that 90% of jaw pain is rooted in muscle dysfunction.

There are many different ways to alleviate jaw pain and headaches associated with temporomandibular dysfunction(TMD) however, everyone is unique in why they experience jaw problems. That is why the underlying cause of the symptoms must always be investigated.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy(OMT) helps to treat jaw pain by focusing on improving the position of the tongue.  The proper position of the tongue helps to stabilize the jaw and relax tense jaw muscles.  Clients are also assessed for tongue-tie, which can be closely related to TMJ symptoms and headaches.  OMT exercises have been shown to significantly decrease jaw pain and headaches if the underlying cause is tongue and muscle related.

We take pride in our Enhanced Myofunctional Wellness program which incorporates therapy specific to helping you relieve your jaw and facial pain.

Our practice recognizes that pain and problems with the TMJ are often multifaceted. We collaborate with a number of other healthcare providers and will provide referrals if needed in certain cases.
